NOTP Germany 2011 – The eighties all around

Seal, Nile Rodgers and Allison Moyet: you couldn’t get them more far apart, but so far it look already to become a very variating show.
Jan promised to take on a few good old classical pieces again. Our favorites are Ouverture Leichte Cavalerie of Franz von Suppé (hasn’t been played for the lasts 11 years), Rossini’s Ouverture Wilhelm Tell (9 years), or the sing-alongs from the well-known Verdi. But of course we’re always open for new unknown pieces!
And now the artists
Seal, fully known as Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adelo Samuel, was already the headline for the NOTP shows in Rotterdam 2005. His career started in 1990 with Adamski’s Killer and in 1991 he got a hit with Crazy, followed by Kiss from a rose in 1995 (soundtrack for Batman Forever). For more facts we’d like to point to Wikipedia.
We’re certainly looking forward to his old hits, maybe combined with his recent CD: for us the combination of Papa was a rolling Stone & Killer for an opener is also a great success! Kiss from a rose can’t be left out and the organizer seems to enjoy playing Crazy.

Nile Rodgers is a legend in the world of music. He composed many disco- and funky hits for his own band Chic, together with his friend Bernard Edwards, who passed away already. He worked as arranger and producer with famous artists: David Bowie, Madonna, Duran Duran, Grace Jones, Earth Wind and Fire, and many others. If you like to know more about his career, we would like to point to Wikipedia and also to two very interesting interviews with Nile Rodgers where he speaks publicly about the music world and his career, use of drugs, and the cancer that was found with him in 2010.
Those who heard Chic before during the Proms in Antwerp or Charleroi, know that he brings some very beautiful ladies along with Chic, who can sing very good. They came on stage with I want your love and continued with Le Freak. Good Times remains irresistable with te famous raptune. There will be dancing in Germany.

Alison Moyet is rather an artist of the eigthies and she’s one of the top five best selling female Britisch artists. The slightly other ones will know her hits like Love resurrection, Is this love, That ole devil called love, All cried out, etc… More about her life story can be read on Wikipedia.
We saw her in 2009 when she took part in the Charleroi show and had certainly no remarks about the quality of her low voice. But she wanted to show herself as a diva and had, except for Love resurrection, chosen for slower songs, a typical error for those who are joining the Night of the Proms for the first time. Since not everyone is familiar with her greatest hists, she will have to bring at least a medley of hits like ‘Is this Love’, and will have to bring more show on stage to earn the respect of and audience of over 10000 people. A womam with her qualities will have to be able to do this for sure.

The German artist for the tour is the band Stanfour. The band exists since 2004 and is known in Germany with different English songs. We didn’t knew them and heard them on YouTube. Since then we’re thinking about Wishing you well, In Your Arms and also liked For All Lovers.

Ah, Denise, Isabella, Vittoria en Sofia! You take the first letter of the first names of the four ladies, and you’ll get DIV4S (pronounced as Divas). With their performance in Charleroi 2010, we noted: “During the long introduction of their Opera medley, the audience got the chance to appreciate the beauty of the four young ladies and their clothes. And then they started singing: the shivers and silence in the arena came up. Many were caught by their voices: technically capable of bringing the aria’s from Norma, the Magical Flute, Carmen and Traviata, brought separately and then together again, sounded like heaven.”. For us, the discovery of that evening we wish the same you to everyone. Beautiful young ladies, wonderful long clothes and certainly trained voices. During the edition, their first CD will be released. We’re looking forward to it.

Do we still have to present Robert Groslot and John Miles? They are practically Night of the Proms. We’ve had an extended interview with Robert Groslot before and John Miles can be found throughout our site. But we still hope to fully interview him very soon!
