NOTP Antwerp 2011 – It will be an interesting evening

The shows in Antwerp look very promising. The styles of the 3 pop artists are matching and both Seal as Mick Hucknall are equally skilled. We hope that these artists performing mixed through each other instead of each closing a part.

Jan promised to take on a few good old classical pieces again. Our favorites are Ouverture Leichte Cavalerie of Franz von Suppé (hasn’t been played for the lasts 11 years), Rossini’s Ouverture Wilhelm Tell (9 years), or the sing-alongs from the well-known Verdi. But of course we’re always open for new unknown pieces!

And now the artists

Seal, fully known as Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adelo Samuel, was already the headline for the NOTP shows in Rotterdam 2005. His career started in 1990 with Adamski’s Killer and in 1991 he got a hit with Crazy, followed by Kiss from a rose in 1995 (soundtrack for Batman Forever). For more facts we’d like to point to Wikipedia.
We’re certainly looking forward to his old hits, maybe combined with his recent CD: for us the combination of Papa was a rolling Stone & Killer for an opener is also a great success! Kiss from a rose can’t be left out and the organizer seems to enjoy playing Crazy.

The lead singer of the late Simply Red is Mick Hucknall, with the curly red hair and a real characteristic voice with a broad range. On Wikipedia you can read more about his career and the whole line of hits he got with his band Simply Red. We’re fans since a long time, certainly when we heard their version of If you don’t know me by now and the beautiful tribute to Mick’s mother in Holding back the years. The songs of Simply Red are stronger, when you look at the content, then the ones of Seal, but let’s hope on a rocky-Seal to close down.
Sunrise is real lounge-music which makes you feel good, and Mick Hucknall can end for sure with Stars, which we will sing along from beginning until the end!

Angie Stone. Let’s see… We know the name, but from which hit? Of course! Wish I didn’t miss you from 2001. Her music is mainly based on the same soul rhythm and can be placed in the same category of Macy Gray, who we heard four years ago at the Proms. Her voice is very powerful and to us, it looks perfect for a duet with John Miles ( an example that comes to our musical minds could be Baby come to me).

Ah, Denise, Isabella, Vittoria en Sofia! You take the first letter of the first names of the four ladies, and you’ll get DIV4S (pronounced as Divas). With their performance in Charleroi 2010, we noted: “During the long introduction of their Opera medley, the audience got the chance to appreciate the beauty of the four young ladies and their clothes. And then they started singing: the shivers and silence in the arena came up. Many were caught by their voices: technically capable of bringing the aria’s from Norma, the Magical Flute, Carmen and Traviata, brought separately and then together again, sounded like heaven.”. For us, the discovery of that evening we wish the same you to everyone. Beautiful young ladies, wonderful long clothes and certainly trained voices. During the edition, their first CD will be released. We’re looking forward to it.

Do we still have to present Robert Groslot and John Miles? They are practically Night of the Proms. We’ve had an extended interview with Robert Groslot before and John Miles can be found throughout our site. But we still hope to fully interview him very soon!
